In fulfilment of its resolve to ensure that learners in the State were not academically affected by the compulsory lock down due to the COVID 19 pandemic world-wide, Ogun state government has kick started it’s virtual learning platform, in partnership with an accredited Microsoft Education Global training partner.
Speaking during the first interactive session on the initiative in Abeokuta, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary secondary and Technical Education Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, said the initiative, being implemented by the Ministry of Education Science and Technology would cut across all private and government owned primary and secondary schools in the State, on core subjects in the academic curriculum in the first phase and other subjects in subsequent phases.
Explaining further, Soyombo noted that, ‘’remote learning is a virtual learning community that provides collaboration, blended learning ecosystem, shared practices, virtual meetings among the core independent constituents, which are the teachers, education leaders and students’’.
She added that the programme would provide the needed avenue to generate content and learning resources from teachers and education providers to support learning, as well as professional development for teachers and education leaders in the State.
‘’Accordingly, it will stimulate, automation and information processing, assessments and feedback on digital literacy, with  information transfer at the fastest speed while keeping the learners in sync with their counterparts in other countries of the world, especially those in terminal classes as they prepare for their certificate examination’’, she stated.
Speaking during the inaugural session of the programme, Chairman ANCOPSS, Ogun state, Dr. (Mrs) Womiloju Ayodele, lauded the initiative which she noted was apt and first of its kind in the South West, ‘’if not in Nigeria’’, saying, it was coming at a time there was the general uncertainty on the reopening of schools and its dire effects on the learners.
She encouraged all parties involved to give their best to achieve the desired objective of the initiative, which she described as, ‘’a ray of light in a darkened cloud’’.
Chairman, Ogun State House Committee on Education, Hon. Ademuyiwa Adeyemi, admonished parents and Guardians to ensure that all that would needed to ensure their wards benefit from this innovation was made available, adding that this move would also bring to rest, the uneasiness the current situation in the world might have on learning.
You will recall that Ogun state is currently running on air classes for learners on the State owned television station OGTV, DSTV and GOTV called Ogun Digiclass between 9am and 2pm daily. Remote Learning System platform is a follow up to the Ogun Digiclass project
