ANOTHER TANKER EXPLODES ON LAGOS-ABEOKUTA EXPRESSWAY

Many persons were trapped when a tanker exploded at the Kara axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Sunday morning.
Although the incident happened after midnight, a lot of vehicles were on the bridge as a result of the curfew imposed to check the spread of coronavirus.
The federal government had ordered a nationwide curfew from 10pm to 6am and vehicles that are unable to make it to Lagos or leave the nation’s commercial capital before 10pm are usually stranded on the bridge till 6 am when security operatives open the road to traffic.
Details of Sunday’s incident are still sketchy but a witness said the fire started after a loud bang.
On social media, some residents of Magodo, Berger, and Ojodu narrated how they could see a billow of smoke from afar.
Firefighters, TRACE have been battling to put out the inferno. At 2:01am, the Federal Fire Service pleaded that there should be no vehicular movement around the area.
“Kara Bridge Fire, men of the Federal Fire Service are already at the scene. Please vehicular movements should be halted around the area,” the tweet read.

The TRACE Public Relation Officer has released a traffic alert in this regard "TRACE TRAFFIC ALERT!!

A multiple accident involving 4 vehicles, 3 tankers, 1 tipper truck and 1 gas truck happened on Kara Bridge by Berger, outbound Lagos along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway by 0330hrs on Sunday, 21st June, 2020.

This unfortunate development has caused a heavy traffic challenge along the Lagos-Ibadan traffic corridor, especially outbound Lagos.

In view of this, motorists presently moving outbound Lagos (out of lagos) are advised to seek alternative routes depending on their location, while those already stuck in traffic should please exercise patience, as TRACE, FRSC, POLICE and FIRE FIGHTERS form Ogun and Lagos States are working round the clock to ease the traffic logjam  in order to normalize traffic.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation in this regard please.
