AKERELE’S REFORMS REPOSITION LAGOS TASKFORCE FOR PROFESSIONAL, PEOPLE -CENTERED SERVICE

By Temidayo Babalola

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce), under the leadership of the Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele has reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency and public trust following a series of strategic reforms aimed at repositioning the Agency to meet modern enforcement standards and global best practices, TMnews report.

As part of its renewed operational framework, the Taskforce has streamlined its activities in line with directives from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijan, issued on April 1, 2026. This has enabled the Agency to refocus its mandate on maintaining environmental sanity and strengthening internal discipline, while supporting broader efforts to sustain peace and order across Lagos State.
The Agency’s current operations are now centered on environmental enforcement and the removal of criminal elements, including miscreants, street urchins which is popularly known as “Omotaku” and drug addicts. This strategic shift reflects a deliberate effort to enhance efficiency, reduce friction with road users and deliver a more citizen-friendly approach to enforcement.

Akerele noted that the ongoing reforms are designed to rebuild public confidence, improve operational conduct and ensure that all enforcement activities are carried out with utmost professionalism and respect for the rights of residents.

The Taskforce also reiterated its commitment to working collaboratively with other security and regulatory agencies to ensure a safe, orderly and livable environment for all Lagosians.

Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, particularly unauthorized individuals posing as enforcement officers, as the Agency maintains a zero-tolerance stance against illegality and impersonation.

The Lagos State Taskforce remains steadfast in its mission to support government’s vision of a cleaner, safer and more organized Lagos through a disciplined, transparent and people-oriented approach.
