SAUDI-BOUND WANTED DRUG LORD ARRESTED AS NDLEA DISMANTLES CLANDESTINE ‘COLO’ LAB IN LEKKI

-148.3kg of Synthetic Cannabis Seized 73-year-old Man, 70-year-old Woman Arrested in Edo, Bayelsa

A wanted drug kingpin, Yussuf Abayomi Azeez, 40, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, while attempting to travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah.

Azeez, who had earlier fled the United Kingdom after jumping bail on drug charges, had allegedly established a large-scale clandestine laboratory in Lekki, Lagos, for the production of Colorado, a potent synthetic cannabis strain.

He was apprehended around 6:30am on Thursday, November 6, 2025, following months of intelligence tracking. Operatives subsequently led him to his illicit laboratory located at 17 Vincent Eku Street, Ogombo, Lekki, where the Agency’s forensic team dismantled the production facility and seized 148.3kg of Colorado and precursor chemicals. Another suspect, Abideen Kekere-Ekun (43), was also arrested at the scene.

Meanwhile, a separate joint security operation at the Sifax Bonded Terminal, Okota, Lagos, on Friday, November 7, uncovered 105.5kg of ‘Molly’ (a designer drug) and 500g of methamphetamine concealed in a shipment.

In Niger State, NDLEA operatives intercepted 87,000 tramadol pills and 72kg of skunk in a Volvo truck along Kainji-Wawa road. Similarly, in Taraba, 15,020 tramadol capsules were seized from one Felix Tanko Chinedu (28) at Kasuwabera ATC, Ardo-Kola LGA.

Another interception along the Okene-Lokoja highway in Kogi State led to the seizure of 7.6kg of Loud, followed by a coordinated arrest in Abuja of the owner Chukwunonso Anieze (40). Additionally, 175,000 opioid pills were recovered from another consignment the same day.

At the Abuja-Kaduna tollgate, operatives arrested Olayide Oyidiran (39), Abdulsalam Abdulsalam (28), and Opeyemi Tijjani (39) with 769kg of skunk travelling from Lagos to Kano via Ondo.

In Edo State, NDLEA agents destroyed 1,459.75kg of cannabis farms in Igbeshi forest, Etsako East LGA, and arrested a 73-year-old grandfather, James Ugbedo, at the scene. Likewise, a 70-year-old woman, Mrs. Comfort Odudu, was arrested in Onopa, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, with 5kg of skunk.

The Agency also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaigns across schools, religious centres, motor parks and communities nationwide.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd.), commended the officers involved and reiterated that the Agency would sustain its offensive against drug cartels.

“The dismantling of another Colorado lab and arrest of its mastermind barely a week after similar raids sends a clear message,” Marwa said. “We will continue to hunt down those who profit from the destruction of lives.”

The statement was issued by Femi Babafemi, Director, Media & Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Sunday, November 9, 2025.
