POLICE RESCUE TWO KIDNAPPED VICTIMS, ARREST THREE SUSPECTS
In a commendable display of operational diligence, the Nigeria Police Force has made significant strides in the fight against human trafficking and kidnapping, reinforcing its commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the nation.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on July 30, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., officers from the Enugu State Police Command, while conducting routine patrols along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, intercepted a suspected human trafficker named Raymond Sunday Wonna, 30. During this operation, they successfully rescued two young female victims, Miracle Ogar, 18, and Angela Kingsley, 16.
Initial investigations revealed that the victims had been deceived into believing they were being offered job opportunities in Ghana. Without their parents' knowledge or consent, Wonna, who posed as a casual laborer, intended to transport them to a restaurant allegedly owned by his “baby mama” in Ghana. While the victims were temporarily lodged in a hotel before their departure, the suspect attempted to sexually assault them. The timely intervention of the police not only thwarted this illicit journey but also ensured the safe return of the victims to their families. Investigations are ongoing to locate other members of the trafficking network.
In a related development, on August 13, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m., operatives from the Taraba State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a successful operation in Mahadi Forest, Gassol LGA. This operation resulted in the arrest of two suspected kidnappers, Yahaya Umar, 20, and Mohammed Umar, 47. The suspects were found in possession of an AK-47 rifle and have confessed to being part of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for multiple attacks in Plateau and Taraba States. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend additional members of this criminal gang.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the operatives for their vigilance and swift actions. He assured citizens of the Force's unwavering commitment to their safety and has directed a thorough and prompt investigation to ensure the prosecution of all involved. The Nigeria Police Force continues to reinforce its mission to protect citizens from criminal elements operating both domestically and across borders. These recent successes underscore the importance of community vigilance, intelligence-led operations, and rapid law enforcement actions.
