IGP Honors Excellence, Decorate Award-Winning Officers in Historic Ceremony

In a landmark initiative aimed at boosting morale and recognizing outstanding service, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, is set to honor select officers of the Nigeria Police Force who have recently been approved for promotion by the Police Service Commission (PSC). This ceremony, scheduled for August 5, 2025, at the IGP Smart Conference Room in Abuja, marks a significant step in the Force’s commitment to celebrating integrity and excellence within its ranks.

The promotions are not merely administrative; they serve as public endorsements of the exemplary conduct, courage, and character displayed by the officers in their service to the nation. Among those to be honored are CSP Shaba Aliyu, named Police Officer of the Year 2023, who will be promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police, and SP Sentome Obi, Police Officer of the Year 2024, who will rise to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police.

This initiative follows a commitment made by the Force in a previous press release, stating that any officer recognized as Police Officer of the Year or who received the IGP recognition award consecutively would be considered for accelerated promotion. This reflects IGP Egbetokun’s belief in the importance of rewarding excellence as a foundation for institutional reform.

The ceremony will also acknowledge other officers who have received multiple commendations for their distinguished service, reinforcing the message that dedication and integrity are valued in the Nigeria Police Force.

To emphasize the significance of the occasion, the IGP has arranged for a police jet to transport the award-winning officers to Abuja for their decoration. Furthermore, their photographs will be displayed prominently at the Force Headquarters and at Zonal and State Command Headquarters, symbolizing the high ideals of courage and honesty.

DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, emphasized that this initiative is a reminder to all officers that their efforts are recognized and that the current leadership is committed to promoting professionalism within the Force.

This celebration of excellence is a pivotal moment for the Nigeria Police Force, showcasing its dedication to honoring those who embody the values of service, integrity, and commitment to the nation.
