The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has announced significant advancements in the Nigeria Police Force's (NPF) Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) aimed at strengthening efforts against violent crime across the country.
In a strategic move to enhance intelligence gathering, the IGP revealed the acquisition of state-of-the-art technological devices and applications designed to improve crime detection and facilitate the swift arrest of criminals. This initiative is part of a broader commitment to intelligence-led policing, which has proven effective in recent operations.
To ensure that personnel are fully equipped to utilize the new technologies, IGP Egbetokun has initiated comprehensive training programs for TIU members. These programs are aligned with global intelligence standards and aim to provide officers with the necessary skills to adapt to rapidly changing criminal trends.
Emphasizing the need for continuous improvement, the IGP noted that the dynamic nature of crime, both globally and within Nigeria, necessitates a proactive approach. Recent successes, including the arrest of a notorious arms-peddling gang operating in states such as Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, and Plateau, showcase the effectiveness of the NPF's enhanced intelligence capabilities.
IGP Egbetokun also reassured Nigerians of the NPF's commitment to implementing robust measures to prevent crimes and respond effectively to emerging security threats. "We are dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of our citizens," he stated.
As the Nigeria Police Force continues to upgrade its operational capabilities, the focus on intelligence-led policing marks a pivotal shift in the approach to law enforcement in the country.
