In a bold move that signifies a turning point for Ado-Odo/Ota, Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo has condemned the community's inadequate representation in the National Assembly since 1999, announcing her candidacy for the House of Representatives. With a career spanning the oilfields of the North Sea to high-level policy-making in the UK, Okuboyejo embodies a unique blend of technical expertise and community commitment.
A trained petroleum engineer, she has held pivotal roles at industry giants like ExxonMobil, Chevron, and Centrica. Her experience extends to the UK government, where she served as Chief of Staff at the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, and now, as a Cyber Risk Consultant for the National Energy System Operator. Despite her impressive accolades, Okuboyejo remains deeply rooted in her heritage, channeling her experiences into local empowerment through her NGO, the Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo Renaissance Project (TAORP).
In her pursuit of political office, Okuboyejo aims to engage the Nigerian diaspora—especially those with technical and leadership skills—to actively contribute to the country's transformation. She believes that the next generation of Nigerian leaders must come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, breaking the status quo that has left many communities voiceless.
Known affectionately as NaijaBabe, Okuboyejo serves as a role model for young Nigerians, particularly women, advocating for mentorship and the importance of networks in achieving success. With her extensive academic background, including an Executive Master’s in Public Administration from the London School of Economics, she is poised to bridge the gap between policy and the realities of everyday Nigerians.
As Nigeria looks toward a new era of governance, voices like Agemo-Okuboyejo’s illuminate a path forward—one defined by merit, community engagement, and a steadfast belief that real change is not only achievable but essential.
