SECURITY: ESSENTIAL TOOL FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT -OLAMIDE LAWAL

According to Ashley Bryan, "having a safe space to imagine, dream and (re)invent oneself is the first step to being happy and successful, whatever road one chooses to pursue".

With this at the back of my mind coupled with my desire to continuously ensure absolute safety of Ogun Youth, on the occasion of International Youth Day 2020, I met with the top security hierarchy of Police in the State to further re-establish a symbiotic relationship between the Police command and the Youth constituency in Ogun state.

During the meeting, I laid emphasis on how Governor Dapo Abiodun MFR has redefined Youth development in the State, which ranged from Agriculture, ICT, Job Creation, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and even Political appointments. Therefore, I decided to synergize with the Police in order to further enhance the existing safe place for the Youth potentials to be showcased.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Ajogun while responding, commended my visit and appreciated governor Dapo Abiodun for his love for Youths, noting that the Youths truly have great potentials that could be used in the development of any society if given proper orientations and maximum security against all forms of crime.

The CP further explained that records have proven that all forms of crime, such as; internet fraud, hooliganism, robbery, cultism and so on are usually committed by the Youth due to their youthfulness, while the only thing that could make perpetrators channel their energies to more positive roles in the society is to continuously accommodate, orientate and build a strong security network against all forms of crime in our society.

He assured us of maximum cooperation and support, while advising us to initiate a project that will further strengthen the intelligence gathering and community policing among the Youth.

Earlier, the state Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, officer Wale Abass, noted that the major cause of Youth exorberances cannot be disconnected from societal challenges and lack of proper exploration of the Youth potentials, but the state command would continue to do her best in ensuring proper guide and safety of the Youth for the betterment of the state and the country at large.

In the same vein, the Deputy Commissioner (Admin), officer Abiodun Alamutu commended the Youth of the state for their civility and appreciated my moves in ensuring that the police and the youth in Ogun State work together for the growth of the State, adding that since the inception of the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun, the state Police command had not experienced any form of crime that was beyond  control from the Youth constitituency in the state.

Another top officer, Babatunde Sodimu described the Youth as an asset to societal growth. He pointed out that sporting activities and talents exhibition programmes are very key when the need to positively engage idle Youth arises, which will in turn add many positive impacts on the Youth and the society at large. He also noted that that societal growth would be at its best if the youths are well explored for creative events against societal crime.

Appreciating the top officers for their deligence and inspiring attention, I reiterated my commitment in assisting the governor to explore all means in ensuring a better synergy between the state Police command and the Youth constituency in Ogun state towards achieving the operation "Say No to Crime" as contained in the agenda of Governor Dapo Abiodun and the state Police command.

Other top officers in attendance were the police PRO, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, Supol Wale Famobuwa, Supol Bamidele Jobe among others.

In no distance future, it is in my plan to extend such moves to other security formations in the State.
