Members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) have been tasked to focus more on result oriented projects and not the glamour of the profession.

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele threw the challenge at the Dinner, Induction and Award ceremony of the Abeokuta Branch of the Society, at the Valley View Auditorium, Abeokuta, charging the Engineers to concentrate more on practical ways of solving societal problems.

Represented by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, the Deputy Governor said that technological innovations and ideas form the bedrock of societal growth, urging them to continue to contribute meaningfully to the development of the State.

In his welcome address, the Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Abeokuta Branch, Engr. (Dr.) Olanrewaju Apampa, said engineering is indispensable to nation building, charging engineers to nurture their acquired knowledge through constant practice, in order to remain relevant in global trends.

He commended the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for reviving the State's Road Maintenance Agency, renamed Ogun Public Work Agency (OPWA), which he said, would serve as avenue for local engineers to practice and develop their capacity.

Speaking on the theme, "Engineering in the Future: How Ready Are We?", the Guest Lecturer, Engr. Tony Agah, tasked the professionals to keep abreast of modern engineering and technological trends.

"The Engineer of today will become obsolete tomorrow, if he does not wake up to the technology of tomorrow. This is achievable through machine-learning, logic, automation and artificial intelligence", he said.

Highlight of the event was Induction of new members and presentation of Distinguished Leadership Awards to the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina, Life Time Award to the immediate past Head of Service, Engr. Lanre Bisiriyu, Distinguished Corporate Awards to Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, as well as eleven others, in different categories.

Present at the occasion were Ogun State Head of Service, Tlp. Amope Chokor, Permanent Secretaries and a host of top government functionaries.
