...Rescue Four-year-old From Kidnappers

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended 87 suspected criminals, bringing the number of suspects arrested within five weeks of the stewardship of Ahmed Iliyasu in the State as Commissioner of Police to 36.

Having done investigative journalism, which revealed that a total of 155 suspects were arrested in Iliasu's five days in office, while another set of 122 were also nabbed two weeks after.

All the 277 suspects previously arrested have, according to the police boss, been arraigned in court.

Briefing journalists at the Bompai Police headquarters in Kano on Friday, July 5, 2019, Iliyasu stated that among the 87 recently arrested suspects, three were members of the dreaded Boko Haram insurgent.

Iliyasu further narrated a pathetic story of a four-year-old victim of kidnapping, who was rescued, saying: "On July 4, 2019, a team of Puff Adder detectives arrested one Ibrahim Musa of Unguwar Rimi Quarters, Kaduna, whose confession led to the arrest of two female suspects, both of the same address, from whom a 4-year-old girl, Kadija Rizwan, of Wailari Quarters Kano was rescued".
  
According to the CP, 61 suspects were arrested in criminal hideouts with various dangerous weapons and intoxicating / hallucinating substances.

He said the other 26 suspects were involved in crimes ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping, membership of unlawful societies, car theft and hard drug merchandising.

For the three insurgents, Iliasu stated that one of them was arrested in a Hotel in Sabon Gari Quarters, Kano while the other two were raided at criminal hideouts within the metropolis in an attempt to regroup in Kano State, adding that, "They all confessed and identified to be members of Boko Haram. Investigation in progress".

Also arrested were five members of a syndicate that combined armed robbery with kidnapping, from whom two locally made single barrel guns were recovered.

The suspects, according to the CP, had been terrorizing people at Falgore Forest and other parts of the state, adding that a manhunt was being launched to apprehend six other members of the syndicate still at large.

According to the press release, an armed robbery suspect, whose name was given as Bashir Sani, of Rimin Kebbe Quarters, Kano, was arrested with a single barrel gun loaded with 15 rounds of cartridges, stating that investigation further revealed, from the suspect's kitty, one locally made gun, a chemical/pepper spray, a Jack Knife, a walkie-talking, one hand cuff and a police belt.

He also said, "ten bandits were intercepted at Koki Quarters in a Toyota Hiace bus heading towards Badawa Quarters in Kano. When the vehicle was searched, they were found to be in possession of 22 various dangerous weapons, including long knives, short knives, charms, new weapons of violence called ’’Fate-fate, Tsitaka and Barandami’’, cutlasses, 15 clubs (Gora), a large quantity of hard drugs and intoxicating/ hallucinating substances and other dangerous weapons.

"Two suspected car thieves were arrested on the June 29, 2019.  Based on credible information along Katsina Road Kano, a team of operation Puff Adder detectives swung into action and arrested the culprits . Two Honda Civic cars and a Toyota Highlander Jeep were recovered from them. They confessed to the commission of the crimes and investigation is on to recover more stolen vehicles from them", he said.

Aside the suspects, the Command also recovered three arms, 18 live ammunition and 16 live cartridges; 15 laptop; 26 parcels, 250 wraps and other large quantity of Indian hemp;
three motor vehicles; 43 Knives; 32 Clubs (Gora); eight cutlasses and two Gariyo; 220 bottles of "Suck and Die" and 32 Sachets of Diazapam tablets.

Commending operatives of the Puff Adder whose operation, he said was yielding positive results as witnessed recently, Iliasu assured that the special outfit would be sustained throughout the state, "until all non-repentant criminal elements are arrested and brought before the law. We appreciate the good people of the state and law abiding members of the public, and urge you to continue to cooperate with the command with a view to achieving a peaceful and crime-free Kano State", he added.

However, it is clear that CP Ahmed is not only a lion of the gateway but also lion of arewa.
