The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, ESV. Bolaji Orekoya has noted that provision of affordable housing to the low income earners was germane, as it would buttress the mantra of Prince Dapo Abiodun’s administration of ‘Building Our Future Together’.

He said this to urge the Agencies in charge of provision of houses to the masses in Ogun State to build according to the demands of prospective buyers, as the provision of affordable houses was a legacy which has multiple effects on the masses and future generations.

The Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, stated this during a working visit to Ogun State Housing Corporation (OGSHC) and Ogun State Properties and Investment Corporation (OPIC) in Abeokuta, saying Governor Abiodun maintained that housing remains an essential element of human needs.

Orekoya also a
ssured that the team would not relent in its efforts at supporting the set goals of the present administration, charging Officers to synergise and discharge their duties accordingly.

Omoniyi hinted that his would build 100 units, while Ogun State Housing Corporation would embark on 100 units and OPIC would take care of 25 units for investors who want to reside in the State, charging them to come up with modalities on marketing strategy.

He commended the collaborative efforts of both the staff and management of the Corporations, enjoining them to intensify effort on their marketing approach in order to generate more revenue.

In their separate remarks, the Acting General-Manager, OGSHC, Mr. Wale Ojo, lauded the Governor for putting a round peg in a round hole, with the appointment of Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi as Housing Commissioner, who, since his assumption, has been calling stakeholders on Housing to round table discussions on how to move the sector forward.

He explained that the Corporation had achieved much in the industry, mentioning some of the estates’ locations which include, Abeokuta, Ilaro, Igbeba in Ijebu-Ode and Odogbolu among others, in which some of the houses had been sold, while other were still available for selling.

Mr. Ojo said the Corporation was currently working on low cost estate at Idi- Aba, which would be sold at discount rate of N3million, as requested by Governor Abiodun.

On her part, the Acting Managing Director, OPIC, Mrs. Ibiyemi Adesoye, assured that the Corporation would continue to key into government’s visions to make affordable housing available for all.

According to her,   "I am happy to say that work has commenced within three months of the administration in King's Court Estate, which is a premium gated estate, with the purpose of meeting the housing needs of prospective private sector. We know that His Excellency is always talking about Public Private Partnership and in OPIC, we want to ensure they have very decent accommodation".
