Ogun NUJ Disowns LOYAMP, Warns Public Against Dealing With Group

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council has disowned the League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners, describing the body as an unrecognized association with no affiliation to the union.

The Council, in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju and Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Adigun said the group, popularly known as LOYAMP, is neither a recognised organ, chapel nor affiliate of the NUJ in Ogun State.

According to the statement, no organisation bearing the name "League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners" exists within the constitutional structure of the NUJ, stressing that the body lacks the authority to speak or act on behalf of journalists in the state.

The Council further clarified that the only duly recognised NUJ chapel serving the Ogun West Senatorial District is the Ota Independent Online Chapel, whose members, it said, are professional journalists providing credible news coverage across the district.

"The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, remains the only recognised umbrella body for practising journalists in the state and will continue to safeguard the integrity, ethics and professionalism of the journalism profession," the statement read.

The Council urged members of the public, government agencies, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to disregard any representation by LOYAMP suggesting that it speaks for journalists or media practitioners under the auspices of the Ogun NUJ.

It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the credibility of the journalism profession and ensuring that only duly recognised professional bodies operate under the banner of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ogun State.
