LAGOS TASKFORCE DISOWNS OPEBI/TOYIN STREET ARREST CLAIMS, BLAMES VIRAL POST FOR MISINFORMATION

The Lagos State Taskforce has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating online that its operatives are stationed around the Sheraton Link Bridge inward Opebi and along Toyin Street to arrest motorists TMnews report.

In a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the Agency described the viral “travel guide” making the claims as malicious, unverified, and aimed at tarnishing its image.

According to the Taskforce, it is not involved in any traffic enforcement activities in the mentioned areas or across Lagos State at the moment. The Agency explained that it has since withdrawn from traffic operations following a directive issued on April 1, 2026, by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Tijani, to maintain public order and prevent potential unrest.

The statement clarified that current operations of the Taskforce are strictly focused on environmental enforcement and the arrest of suspected miscreants, street urchins popularly known as “Omotaku” and drug addicts.
It further urged residents to disregard the viral claims, noting that any reports linking the Agency to traffic-related arrests in Opebi, Toyin Street, or surrounding areas are entirely unfounded.

The Taskforce also issued a warning to impostors and unauthorized individuals allegedly engaging in illegal enforcement activities, stressing that such actions would attract arrest and prosecution.
Residents were advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the Agency’s official contact lines.

The Lagos State Taskforce reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order while continuing its mandate of sanitizing the environment and curbing criminal activities across the state.
