AIG Fayoade Summons Commanders Over Proliferation of Checkpoints on Ogun Border Routes

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, AIG Adegoke M. Fayoade has raised serious concern over the increasing number of checkpoints mounted by various security agencies along major border routes in Ogun State.

The affected routes include Idi-Iroko, Imeko, and Aiyetoro, where complaints from motorists and residents have continued to mount over alleged extortion and undue harassment.

In response, AIG Fayoade convened a strategic meeting with operational commanders overseeing these corridors to address the situation and restore professionalism to field operations.

According to the Zonal Public Relations Officer, CSP Ayuba T. Umma, the meeting focused on “streamlining and rationalizing checkpoints to enhance effective security operations while curbing unwholesome practices.”

Describing the development as both embarrassing and unacceptable, AIG Fayoade emphasized the importance of integrity and discipline among officers, urging them to discharge their duties with respect and professionalism.

To ensure strict compliance, the Zonal AIG has directed the immediate establishment of a Task Force to monitor, supervise, and regulate checkpoint activities across the affected routes. The Task Force, he said, will ensure adherence to laid down operational standards and accountability in security operations.

AIG Fayoade also called for stronger collaboration among security agencies and community stakeholders to foster trust, transparency and efficiency in policing. He further charged senior officers to continuously sensitize their subordinates on the need for civility and professionalism while carrying out their statutory responsibilities.
