WHY IPOKIA ZONE-C SHOULD PRODUCE NEXT HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES MEMBER

By Temidayo Babalola

As the 2027 general elections draw closer, the clamor for equity, justice, and fair representation in the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency has intensified. Stakeholders across the constituency are united in their position that Ipokia Zone C should rightfully produce the next member of the House of Representatives.

For over two decades, the constituency has witnessed a lopsided pattern in representation. Records show that while Yewa South Local Government has produced lawmakers at the House of Representatives five times, Ipokia has had only two terms.

From 1999 to 2003, Hon. Kamoru Oduntan from Ipokia (Zone A) represented the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency. He was succeeded by Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade from Yewa South, who served three consecutive terms between 2003 and 2015.

In 2015, Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, popularly known as “Triple A,” from Ipokia (Zone B), took over and served until 2019. The seat then returned to Yewa South, with Hon. Kolawole Moboluwaduro Lawal “KLM” holding office from 2019 to 2023.

Currently, the position is once again occupied by Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade from Yewa South, who is now serving his fourth term.

This means Yewa South has enjoyed five terms, while Ipokia has been limited to only two, a situation many describe as unjust and contrary to the principle of rotation and inclusiveness.

Ipokia Local Government is made up of three zones, A, B, and C. While Zones A and B have both had their turns in producing representatives at the House of Representatives, Zone C has never been given the opportunity. Stakeholders therefore insist that, in the spirit of equity and fairness, the 2027 contest should rightly be ceded to Ipokia Zone C.

Amid this growing agitation, Hon. Fayomi Abraham Ajibola, fondly known as Fayab, has emerged as a beacon of hope for the constituency. A proven grassroots mobilizer and visionary leader, Fayab, who is also the founder of the influential Fayab for YAYI Movement has declared his readiness to offer purposeful representation. Widely respected for his passion, accessibility, and unwavering commitment to community development, he stands out as a credible choice to champion the interests of Yewa South/Ipokia at the national level.

Fayab, who hails from Zone C in Ipokia, is widely regarded as a leader who prioritizes community consultation. In recent weeks, he has embarked on intensive consultations with political, traditional, and community leaders across Ipokia Local Government and Yewa South, seeking their guidance, support, and endorsement.

According to his supporters, his approach reflects his philosophy that leaders must emerge with the consent and blessings of their people.

The clamour for Ipokia Zone C is more than a political calculation; it is about restoring justice, correcting historical imbalance, and strengthening unity between Yewa South and Ipokia.

At the state level, Senator Olamilekan Adeola “Yayi’s” governorship ambition is being viewed as Ogun West’s wider push for inclusion in the political leadership of Ogun State. At the federal constituency level, Hon. Fayomi Abraham Ajibola, popularly known as Fayab, has equally positioned his aspiration as Ipokia Zone C’s quest for equitable representation in the House of Representatives.

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the demand for fairness in the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency has continued to gain prominence. Stakeholders argue that the contest must not follow the usual pattern but should provide an opportunity for Ipokia Zone C to produce the next federal lawmaker.

In the same breath, Fayab together with political leaders and opinion molders are also stressing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term bid, insisting that the Renewed Hope Agenda requires continuity.

They maintain that Asiwaju Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is crucial for the completion of his developmental programs, urging Ogun people, particularly in Yewa South/Ipokia Constituency, to vote in favor of the president for consolidation.
