The Nigeria Police Force has announced major breakthroughs in its fight against crime, with the rescue of five kidnap victims, the neutralization of five suspected kidnappers, and the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition during recent operations in Kebbi and Abia States.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, noting that the operations were part of ongoing efforts to bolster internal security and safeguard lives and property nationwide.
In Kebbi State, police operatives in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes rescued three kidnapped victims — Muhammad Nasamu Namata (25), Gide Namata (20), and Hamidu Alhaji Namani (35). The victims had been abducted on July 27, 2025, in Sangara Village, Shanga Local Government Area, but were freed after a fierce gun battle with their abductors in Shanga Hills.
Similarly, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of the state, operatives on routine patrol engaged armed bandits around Dankade Village in Ribah District on August 15. The encounter led to the rescue of two more victims — Tukur Bello (26) and Isyaka Abubakar (25) — who had been kidnapped while grazing cattle in Gairi Forest, Zamfara State, on August 9. Both have since reunited with their families.
In Abia State, police operatives stormed a kidnappers’ den at Umuiku Obete Village in Ukwa West Local Government Area, following credible intelligence. The suspects engaged the security team in a gun duel but were overpowered, leading to the neutralization of five gang members. Items recovered at the scene included six AK-47 rifles, 335 rounds of live ammunition, 14 magazines, five mobile phones, three cutlasses, five operational jackets, an axe, a pair of boots, a charm, and a double-barreled long gun.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and bravery. He urged them to sustain the momentum and intensify efforts against criminal groups across the country.
The IGP further assured Nigerians of the Force’s unwavering commitment to fighting crime in all its forms and maintaining peace, law, and order nationwide.
