FROM MARGINALIZATION TO REPRESENTATION: 2027 EQUITY FOR OGUN WEST, JUSTICE FOR IPOKIA

Temidayo Babalola

For decades, Ogun West Senatorial District has borne the weight of political marginalization in Ogun State. Since the creation of the state in 1976, no son or daughter of Ogun West has ever been entrusted with the governorship seat, despite the region’s immense contributions to the state’s growth and development. This historical imbalance has fueled a persistent demand for fairness, equity, and inclusion.

At the constituency level, a similar imbalance exists within the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency. While Yewa South has produced representatives at the House of Representatives for five terms, Ipokia Local Government has had only two terms.

A breakdown of the representation history shows:
1999–2003 – Hon. Kamoru Oduntan (Ipokia LG)

2003–2007, 2007–2011, 2011–2015 – Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade (Owode, Yewa South LG) – three consecutive terms

2015–2019 – Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade “Triple A” (Agosasa, Ipokia LG)

2019–2023 – Hon. Kolawole Moboluwaduro Lawal (KLM) (Oke-Odan, Yewa South LG)

2023–date – Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade (Owode, Yewa South LG) – his fourth term, making it Yewa South’s fifth overall term

This imbalance clearly underscores the urgent need for fairer representation as the 2027 general elections approach.

Senator Yayi: Championing Ogun West’s Governorship Dream
Currently representing Ogun West in the Senate, Senator Adeola Olamilekan Solomon Yayi has emerged as a transformative leader whose achievements have rekindled hope across the district. His tenure has delivered true dividends of democracy through infrastructure, empowerment, and community development projects, which have touched every corner of Ogun West and extended across Ogun State.

His governorship ambition in 2027 is widely regarded as a historic opportunity for Ogun West to finally occupy the number one seat in the state — a development that would correct decades of exclusion and foster balanced growth across all senatorial districts.

Hon. Fayab: A Voice for Ipokia in 2027
In line with this broader push for equity, Hon. Fayomi Abraham Ajibola (Fayab), Chairman of Fayab Group of Companies and Founder of the Fayab for YAYI Ogun 2027 movement, has declared his readiness to represent the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency in 2027.

A grassroots mobilizer and catalyst for change, Hon. Fayab has emphasized that Ipokia must not continue to play second fiddle in the constituency’s representation. His ambition is anchored on restoring balance and ensuring that Ipokia regains its rightful place in the National Assembly.

A Shared Mission for Equity and Inclusion
Together, Senator Yayi and Hon. Fayab represent a dual force for justice and fairness in Ogun politics:
At the state level, Senator Yayi’s governorship bid symbolizes Ogun West’s long-overdue quest for inclusion in Ogun’s leadership.

At the constituency level, Hon. Fayab’s aspiration reflects Ipokia’s demand for equitable representation in the federal legislature.

Both leaders are committed to bridging historical and local gaps, cultivating a culture of active citizenship, and ensuring that the voices of all communities are heard in governance.

Conclusion
The 2027 elections stand as a defining moment for Ogun West and for Ogun State at large. With Senator Yayi championing Ogun West’s long-awaited governorship dream, and Hon. Fayab determined to restore Ipokia’s representation in the House of Representatives, the stage is set for a new era of fairness, unity, and inclusive development.

This is not just politics — it is the rebalancing of equity, justice, and the democratic ideals that guarantee every community a voice in shaping the future of Ogun State.
