OGUN ASSEMBLY PASSES BILL TO CHANGE NAME OF TASCE, OTHERS




The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed two bills to alter the name of the Tai Solarin College of Education to Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology, Omu-Ajose Law, 2021 and the State Fiscal Responsibility Commission (Amendment) Law, 2021 barely forty-eight hours after the two bills scaled second reading on the floor of the House.

The bills titled,” HB.NO 066/OG/2021- The Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology, Omu-Ajose Law, 2021 and H.B. No. 065/OG/2021- The Ogun State Fiscal Responsibility Commission (Amendment) Law, 2021 at a plenary presided over by Speaker Olakunle Oluomo.

The passage of the bill was to put in place legislations targeted at addressing the identity challenge being faced by the College in accessing intervention funds, while broadening its scope and operations, towards positioning it for better academic performance. While that on fiscal responsibility commission would ensure prudent management of the State's resources, thereby achieving greater accountability and transparency in fiscal operations.

The process followed respective presentation of reports by the Chairmen of the Committees on Education, Science and Technology and Finance and Appropriation. The Chairmen, Adeyemi Ademuyiwa, and Kunle Sobukanla, moved the motions for adoption and were seconded respectively by Honourables Adegoke Adeyanju and Ganiyu Oyedeji.

The whole House later supported through a voice vote after which the bills were read and adopted clause by clause by the Committee of the whole House.

Subsequently, the motion for the third reading of the bills was moved by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by Ademuyiwa and Abdul Bashir Oladunjoye respectively, after which the Deputy Clerk of the House, Mrs. Funmi Adeyemi, took the third reading of the bills before the lawmakers.

Responding, Speaker Oluomo, directed that clean copies of the bills be forwarded to the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his assent.

In another development, the State lawmakers, from Ogun Central Senatorial District have urged Governor Abiodun to set out plans, towards ensuring the continuation of channelisation of waterways, with a view to averting loss of lives and property to flashfloods as rainy season was reaching its peak.

The lawmakers also appreciated the State Governor for his strides in infrastructural development, education, health and agriculture among others, while commending him and the Speaker for their exemplary leadership styles.

The members including Honourables Modupe Mujota, Adeyemi Ademuyiwa, Ganiyu Oyedeji, Yusuf Amosun, Oludaisi Elemide and another member from Ogun West, rpresenting Ipokia/Idiroko State Constituency, Sikiratu Ajibola solicited for more infrastructural projects, especially road construction and rehabilitation in their respective constituencies.

Commending their political leaders and constituents for their unflinching support, the lawmakers also sought for the immediate release of constituency projects’ fund for the implementation of complementary projects in their respective constituencies.
