The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has restricted the movements of articulated vehicles plying the State’s routes from 6.00am to 9.00am and 1.00pm to 4.00pm.

The Corp-Commander and Chief Executive Officer TRACE, Commander ‘seni Ogunyemi, stated this during a stakeholders meeting organised by the Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, Hon. Elemide Oludaisi, held at the House of Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the restriction became imperative due to their reckless driving which had led to incessant waste of lives.

"Accidents are on the increase and as an agency in charge of traffic management, we deem it necessary to curtail this menace by restricting the articulated vehicles’ hours of operation on our roads", Ogunyemi said.

Olaseni implored commercial drivers to check their vehicles before embarking on any journey to avoid road accidents, cautioning them to desist from reckless driving, overloading, and overspeed, saying, "safety of lives and property on our roads is not only the responsibility of TRACE but collective efforts and cooperation of all road users".

The TRACE boss revealed that mobile courts would be re-introduced to curb recklessness, while anyone caught disobeying traffic laws would be apprehended and charged to court, urging truck drivers to make use of the help line 112, whenever their vehicles develop mechanical fault to avert carnage on the road.

The organiser of the meeting, Hon. Elemide Oludaisi, enjoined truck drivers to continue training and retraining for their drivers and invite traffic agencies to such programmes, in order to curb reckless driving, as well as reduce road accidents.

In his contribution, the Minority Leader in the Assembly, Hon. Ganiyu Oyedeji, appealed to traffic agencies in the State to ensure traffic laws were enforced and be proactive in the discharge of their duties to save lives and property.

A commercial transporter, Mr. Yomi Osunmuyiwa, appreciated the State Government for organising the programme, calling for the creation of more garages and alternative routes to ease movement
