The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, popularly known as the Lagos State Taskforce, has intensified security and enforcement operations across the state ahead of the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration to ensure the safety of lives and property during the festive period.
Chairman of the agency, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adetayo Akerele, said officers and personnel had already been strategically deployed to various parts of the state in line with the directives of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to strengthen security and public safety throughout the festive season.
According to Akerele, the operations will target illegal motor parks, environmental nuisance, traffic violations, street trading, hooliganism and other unlawful activities often associated with festive periods.
He explained that the Taskforce would collaborate with other security and emergency response agencies to sustain law and order, improve traffic management and ensure a peaceful atmosphere for residents and visitors celebrating the Islamic festival.
“We are fully prepared to ensure that Lagos residents enjoy a peaceful and secure Eid-el-Kabir celebration. Our personnel have been strategically positioned across the state to monitor activities, prevent crimes and respond swiftly to any security breach,” Akerele stated.
The chairman further revealed that patrols and enforcement activities would be intensified across strategic locations in the state to discourage criminal elements and prevent activities capable of disrupting public peace or obstructing movement.
He warned individuals planning to engage in criminal acts or cause disturbances during the celebration to stay away from the state, stressing that the agency would not tolerate any action capable of threatening the security and wellbeing of law-abiding residents.
Akerele added that routine enforcement operations against traffic offenders, illegal commercial activities and environmental infractions would continue throughout the period to maintain sanity and order across Lagos.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities within their communities to relevant authorities.
The Taskforce boss appealed to motorists, transport operators and traders to comply with traffic and environmental regulations to avoid sanctions during the enforcement exercise.
Reaffirming the commitment of the agency to the protection of lives, property and public infrastructure, Akerele noted that the Lagos State Taskforce remained dedicated to supporting the state government’s vision of a secure, orderly and economically vibrant Lagos.
He assured residents that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to enable them celebrate Eid-el-Kabir peacefully and without fear.
“As an agency charged with maintaining environmental sanity and enforcing public order, we remain committed to protecting lives and property before, during and after the festivities,” he said.
