YEWA COUNCIL TO HONOUR RETIRED IGP EGBETOKUN IN ILARO

The Yewa Peoples Development Council (YPDC) has concluded plans to honour former Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, following his recent retirement from the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement issued by the Council’s Chairman, Rahamon Bello, the civic reception is aimed at celebrating Egbetokun’s years of meritorious service to the nation and recognising him as an illustrious son of Yewa Land. Bello described the former police chief as the 22nd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police and the first from Ogun State.

The event, organised under the auspices of the Yewa Traditional Council, will be led by the Paramount Ruler of Yewa Land, Kehinde Olugbenle, who is expected to honour Egbetokun and his wife during the ceremony.
According to the organisers, the civic reception is scheduled to hold on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Yewa Frontier Hotel in Ilaro, the headquarters of Yewa South Local Government Area.

Dignitaries expected at the event include the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, the current Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as well as top military and police officers, captains of industry and traditional rulers from across the country.

Egbetokun, who assumed office as IGP on June 20, 2023, retired voluntarily on February 24, 2026, after serving the country in various capacities within the police force.
