Lagos Police Arrest 23 Suspected Cultists, Recover Firearms in Statewide Crackdown
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested twenty-three (23) suspected cultists and recovered five firearms in a coordinated statewide operation aimed at curbing cultism and violent crimes across the state TMnews report.
The operation, carried out across Ikorodu, Lagos Island, Okoko, Ilasan, Ogba, and Iju, reflects the intensified security strategy of the Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani, to rid the state of criminal elements and illegal arms proliferation.According to the Command, four suspects were apprehended in Ikorodu following credible intelligence linking them to cult-related activities, with preliminary investigations connecting them to the Buccaneers Confraternity, also known as the Sea Lords.
In Lagos Island, police operatives arrested nine suspected cultists during a raid on a criminal hideout. Similarly, five suspects were arrested in Ilasan in connection with the cult-related killing of one Emmanuel Obioson.
In Okoko area, one suspect believed to be affiliated with the Eiye Confraternity was intercepted while in possession of a firearm.
Further operations in Ogba and Iju led to the arrest of four suspects involved in illegal cult gatherings and violent attacks. Police also recovered weapons used in the assaults, while victims of the attacks are currently receiving medical attention.
Items recovered during the operations include five locally made pistols, a toy pistol, fifteen live cartridges, three expended cartridges, police and army camouflage face caps, and a jackknife with its pouch.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, stated that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reiterating the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, CP Fatai Tijani urged residents to remain vigilant and support the police with timely and credible information through designated emergency lines.
The Command emphasized that the crackdown forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property across Lagos State.
