Akerele Launches 24-Hour Hotline, Puts Lagosians at Heart of Task Force Operations

By Temidayo Babalola

Lagos residents have been assured of more transparent, accountable and people-focused enforcement as the Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, CSP Adetayo Akerele, unveiled a 24-hour Response Unit designed to protect the interests of the public and strengthen community policing, TMnews report.

Speaking during a media chat in Lagos, CSP Akerele said the initiative allows residents to directly report the activities of Task Force personnel, including misconduct, harassment, or acts of professionalism, in real time.
According to him, the dedicated hotline 09137555111 will operate round the clock, giving Lagosians a voice and an active role in ensuring discipline within the agency.

“This is about the people. Lagosians deserve a Task Force that works for them, listens to them and is accountable to them,” he said, stressing that every report received will be treated promptly and professionally.

He reaffirmed that the agency operates strictly within the legal framework of the Lagos State Government law as amended in 2018, noting that enforcement activities are carried out with respect for citizens’ rights.

Clarifying operational procedures, CSP Akerele explained that offenders arrested during enforcement operations are charged to court in line with the law, after which they are handed over to appropriate government authorities for further action.

He also addressed public concerns about enforcement agencies, noting that while multiple agencies operate in Lagos, the Police often receive the bulk of public attention. He explained that their role within the Task Force is to enforce and maintain order, ensuring that due process is followed at all times.

In a strong appeal to civic responsibility, the Task Force Chairman stressed that Lagos belongs to everyone and that security is a shared duty.

“If you see something, say something. Security is everybody’s business,” he urged, calling on residents to support the agency with timely and useful information.

CSP Akerele also charged journalists to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unethical activities that could undermine the efforts of the government, emphasizing the critical role of the media in promoting accountability.

He noted that the Response Unit aligns with the reform-driven policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc+, which prioritizes community engagement and trust-building.

With the launch of the 24-hour Response Unit, many Lagosians are expected to benefit from improved service delivery, enhanced accountability and a more responsive Task Force committed to protecting public interest.
