IGP Disu Decorates Eight Newly Promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police

By Temidayo Babalola

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday decorated eight senior officers recently promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) at a ceremony held at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking during the event, IGP Disu described the decoration ceremony as more than a symbolic exercise, noting that elevation to the rank of DIG represents recognition of decades of dedicated service, professionalism and leadership within the police hierarchy.
He charged the newly promoted officers to provide strategic leadership in their respective roles, strengthen internal discipline within the Force, and intensify reforms aimed at improving operational effectiveness. The IGP also urged them to ensure policing strategies remain responsive to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

According to him, the senior officers are expected to deploy their vast experience in intelligence-led policing, operational coordination, inter-agency collaboration, and accountability, while also working to boost public confidence in the police.

IGP Disu expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support to the police institution and commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency and professionalism in the promotion process.

He also acknowledged the families of the newly decorated officers for their sacrifices and support, which he said had contributed significantly to the officers’ successful careers.
The officers decorated as DIGs are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha and Umar Shehu Nadada.

With their decoration, the officers now join the top echelon of the Force’s leadership alongside the Force Secretary, Olabode Adeleye Akinbamilowo, forming the new Force Management Team.

Several dignitaries attended the ceremony, including the Chairman of the House Committee on Airforce, Kabir Alhassan Rurum; Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, Temitope Ilori; former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kefas; former Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Jide Adeniji; Kogi State Commissioner, Muhammed Abdulmutalik; as well as the Zazzau of Zaria.

Also present were Mrs. Arese Arase, wife of late IGP Solomon Arase; former spokesperson of the Department of State Services, Marilyn Ogar; and several retired senior police officers including Austin Iwa and Alobi.

The ceremony marked a significant moment in the ongoing leadership restructuring within the Nigeria Police Force aimed at strengthening operational capacity and enhancing national security.
