CP Fatai Moves to Restore Order, Aligns Lagos Policing with IGP’s Community Blueprint, Pulls Taskforce Off Traffic Duties
By Temidayo Babalola
In a decisive move signaling a shift towards people-centered policing, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit, popularly known as the Taskforce, from all traffic control and enforcement duties across the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the decision is part of broader efforts to sanitize Lagos traffic management and ensure that only designated agencies handle road enforcement responsibilities.
According to the statement, “The Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has directed the immediate and complete withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) from traffic control and traffic contravention enforcement across the State.”
The Command emphasized that the move is aimed at promoting professionalism, accountability and operational clarity, while also addressing public concerns over overlapping duties and alleged excesses by enforcement teams.
Despite the withdrawal, the police clarified that the Taskforce will continue to carry out its other statutory responsibilities without disruption.
Adebisi further urged residents to exercise caution in identifying enforcement personnel, noting that multiple taskforce units operate within Lagos State. He advised motorists to verify the identity of officers before making complaints or allegations, particularly on traffic-related matters.
The latest action by CP Fatai is widely seen as a proactive step towards restoring public confidence and reinforcing a more structured, citizen-friendly approach to policing in Lagos.
