PSC Elevates Fayoade to DIG, Cites Outstanding Performance and Leadership

By Temidayo Babalola

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of AIG Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), recognizing his outstanding performance and decades of dedicated service.

The promotion followed his exceptional showing in the Commission’s written examination and oral interview process.
DIG Fayoade, who enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force in 1992, brings more than 30 years of distinguished experience to his new office.

Prior to his elevation, he served as the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, where he earned commendation for strengthening community policing and leading strategic crime-fighting operations.

Among his notable achievements in Zone 2 was the successful dismantling of the notorious “Billionaires” robbery gang in Lagos, alongside several other high-profile crackdowns on organized crime.

Throughout his career, DIG Fayoade has received numerous national and international recognitions. These include the 2024 Crime Buster of the Year for West and Central Africa, multiple Best Police Station in Africa awards (Nairobi, Kenya), Best Divisional Police Officer in West Africa (Johannesburg and Dubai), as well as the International Security Award from ISSO-SEC Switzerland,  HSIIS United Kingdom and TMnews Award 2025.

Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni, described the promotion as well-deserved and urged the new DIG to see it as a call to greater responsibility in service to the nation.

He expressed confidence that DIG Fayoade’s expertise in technology-driven policing and strong stakeholder partnerships will further reinforce Nigeria’s security framework.
