Ogun APC Denies Ritual Oath-Taking Allegations, Threatens Legal Action

Abeokuta, Ogun State – September 5, 2025

The Ogun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as false and malicious a publication circulating on social media alleging that some of its leaders and members engaged in ritual oath-taking.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the party’s Director of Publicity, Hon. Nuberu Adesanya Olufemi, the APC described the report as “baseless, politically motivated, and deliberately crafted by agents of disunity to tarnish the party’s image and destabilise the peaceful political atmosphere in Ogun State.”

The party stressed that no such event ever took place, insisting that the allegations were fabricated to incite fear, disaffection, and public mistrust. “The so-called ritual oath-taking is a complete fiction,” the statement read, as the APC distanced itself from the publication in its entirety.

While clarifying that oath-taking as recognised by law is guided by the Oaths Act, the APC emphasised that its operations strictly conform to the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the party’s constitution.

To demonstrate transparency, the Ogun APC disclosed that it has already reviewed the matter internally, contacting all members mentioned in the report—who, according to the party, have categorically denied any involvement. It further announced plans to set up an independent fact-finding committee to investigate the origin and intent of the allegations, pledging to make its findings public.

The party challenged those behind the claims to provide verifiable evidence to the APC Secretariat, warning that any registered member found engaging in unlawful acts would face immediate disciplinary measures.

In addition, the APC vowed to take both civil and criminal legal action against the authors and distributors of the alleged libelous publication.

The statement urged the public to disregard the false report and rely solely on official information released through recognised party channels. Reaffirming its commitment to unity, development, and good governance in Ogun State, the APC maintained that it would not be distracted by what it called the “antics of desperate political elements.”
