Abuja, Nigeria – August 23, 2025
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has reviewed his two years in office, outlining key achievements in the nation’s digital transformation drive under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement yesterday, Tijani described his appointment as “the highest honour” of his life, noting that the ministry’s work over the past two years has been guided by a clear blueprint to build “a digital economy that creates prosperity and opportunity for all.”
He highlighted the training of 125,000 young Nigerians under the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, while 225,000 others gained digital literacy skills. He also noted the success of initiatives such as the Build-a-thon for secondary school students and the Girls in ICT programme aimed at empowering young women in technology.
On digital infrastructure, Tijani revealed that Project BRIDGE is deploying 90,000km of fibre optic cable across all states and local governments, while Project 774 is leveraging NigComSat satellites to connect council secretariats nationwide. The Fibre to Hostels Initiative is also providing high-speed internet access to students in tertiary institutions.
The ministry has further piloted rural connectivity in Kura community, Abuja, as part of a broader plan to roll out 7,000 new telecom towers to connect 20 million Nigerians in underserved communities.
To support innovation, the minister noted that Nigeria has established the Digital Innovation Park in Kano and over 100 computer facilities nationwide. He added that Nigeria is positioning itself as a leader in artificial intelligence through the National AI Strategy, funding 45 startups and supporting 10 demonstration projects in agriculture, healthcare, security, and education.
On governance, Tijani said initiatives like DevsInGovernment and Digital Public Infrastructure are equipping civil servants with digital skills and making government services such as passport issuance, licensing, and business registration more transparent and accessible.
He also disclosed that the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) is undergoing modernization to become a hub for e-commerce, agro-logistics, digital banking, and nationwide delivery services.
Expressing appreciation to President Tinubu for his leadership, Tijani reaffirmed his ministry’s focus on data protection, advancing AI development, supporting Nigerian startups, and amplifying Nigeria’s voice in shaping the global digital economy.
“Serving you has been the greatest privilege of my life,” he said. “The work is far from done, but every day convinces me more that our best days are ahead — together.”
