Hon. Avoseh Leads Nigerian Delegation to Sign Key Agreements in Crucial Cross-Border Development MOU in Cotonou

The Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, is currently representing Ogun State and Nigeria at an international meeting aimed at enhancing cross-border cooperation between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin. The event is taking place at the Azalaï Hôtel in Cotonou.
This significant meeting involves the formal signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) among local governments and communes within the Boo, Baatonu, and Nago-Yoruba linguistic areas. The primary goal is to strengthen collaboration on peace, security, and community development along the international boundary.

The Nigerian delegation includes representatives from several states, such as Niger, Kebbi, Kwara, Oyo, Lagos, and Ogun, all of which share borders with the Republic of Benin. This initiative builds upon the foundational frameworks established during an earlier engagement in Parakou, Benin, held from May 2 to 3, 2025, which was part of the Nigeria–Benin Cross-Border Agreement signed in April 2024. The Ipokia Local Government played a pivotal role in that gathering, showcasing leadership in reconnecting historically linked communities and creating a sustainable platform for regional integration.

This information was revealed in a press release from the media aide to the Ipokia Local Government chairman, Isaiah Dansiode. "This ongoing process aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which emphasizes regional stability, inclusive diplomacy, and enhanced intergovernmental coordination. It also reflects the vision of His Excellency, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON, Governor of Ogun State, whose ISEYA Development Agenda focuses on rural advancement, cross-border partnerships, and cultural preservation."

"As discussions continue in Cotonou, this initiative is anticipated to deepen bilateral ties and pave the way for meaningful collaboration, including the implementation of development projects that will directly benefit border communities," he concluded.
