Breaking: Former Odogbolu Council Secretary, Fasola Olamide, Arraigned for Forgery
ODOGBOLU, OGUN STATE:
The Ogun State police have officially charged Fasola Olamide, the 50-year-old former Secretary of Odogbolu Local Government, with two counts of conspiracy and forgery in the Odogbolu Magisterial District. Other individuals implicated in the case remain at large.
The charges, under case number MOD/97C/2025, were filed by the Commissioner of Police against Olamide. The presiding judge is Magistrate S.S. Sotayo of the Senior Magistrate Court 2 in Odogbolu.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged offenses occurred on December 28, 2023, while Olamide was still serving as the Council's Secretary. The first count accuses him of conspiring to commit a felony, specifically forgery, which is punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The second count alleges that Olamide forged a letter dated December 28, 2023, intending for it to be used as genuine, thereby prejudicing the Odogbolu Local Government Council. This action is contrary to Section 467 of the same law.
The prosecution, led by I.A. Opayemi, Esq., a legal officer from the Ogun State Police Command in Eleweran, Abeokuta, underscores the State's commitment to combating official corruption and document fraud. The court has adjourned the case to September 9, 2025, as authorities continue their efforts to apprehend the other suspects involved.
This arraignment is linked to the Okun Owa Chieftaincy dispute, where Olamide allegedly misrepresented the true situation to the late Awujale of Ijebu land, Alayeluwa Dr. Sikiru Adetona. He falsely claimed to have been present and to have observed a contentious meeting held on March 25, 2022, despite a court order prohibiting such gatherings at that time. Disturbingly, the false report was generated nearly two years after the meeting took place.
In a further display of malice, Olamide awarded a score of zero to Prince Taiwo Adebayo, a candidate who protested the absence of local government officials and left the meeting venue. More details are expected to emerge as the trial progresses.
