In a vibrant display of political enthusiasm, a large crowd of APC leaders and members gathered in Imeko, the headquarters of Imeko Afon Local Government, to welcome Hon. Engr. Waliu Olayiwola Taiwo, a prominent Ogun West Senatorial aspirant. The event took place on Thursday as part of Hon. Taiwo's ongoing consultations aimed at securing a seat in the Senate to represent the people of Ogun West.
The gathering took on a festive atmosphere, with party leaders, elders, and members from various levels of the APC present, including five former local government chairmen, the current vice chairman, and a significant turnout of women and youth supporters.
Hon. Chief Albert Ashipa, former chairman of the Local Government and current chairman of the Association of Former Local Government Chairmen, spoke on behalf of the party leaders. In an impassioned address, he praised Hon. Taiwo for his substantial contributions to Imeko Afon LG, stating that the community stands united in endorsing him as their candidate for the Senate. Chief Ashipa highlighted notable achievements, such as the construction of a tarred road connecting Imeko to Ilara, completed within just 100 days of Hon. Taiwo's tenure as Commissioner for Works in Ogun State.
He recounted how Hon. Taiwo has inspired and collaborated with other prominent political figures, including Hon. Jemili Akingbade, Chief Jagun Afon, and Hon. Saka Isiaka, reinforcing the idea that Imeko Afon is like a second home to him. The crowd responded with enthusiastic applause as Chief Ashipa assured Hon. Taiwo of their unwavering support.
The event was filled with exuberant music and dancing from the enthusiastic women present, making the consultation an electrifying experience. Party stakeholders welcomed the presence of Hon. Taiwo, a political icon in Ogun West, with great enthusiasm.
In his remarks, Hon. Taiwo, who is also the Aare Onakakanfo of Awori Land and a trained engineer from Yaba College of Technology, expressed his gratitude for the warm reception. He emphasized the need for a committed, dynamic, and experienced representative who understands the district, aiming to complement the achievements of the current senator, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi. He called for total support for both himself and Senator Yayi, presenting a vision for continued growth and development in Ogun West and across the state.
Hon. Taiwo's delegation included ward chairmen, women leaders from Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, and APC chieftains from Yewa South and Ogun Central Senatorial Districts, all showing solidarity for a leader known for his compassion and approachability.
The event concluded with prayers for Hon. Taiwo's success, along with music and dance, marking a ceremonial end to a highly successful consultation. The journey continues as Hon. Taiwo seeks to engage further with the community.
