The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has officially inaugurated a fully completed Administrative Block valued at ₦250 million for the College of Allied Health Sciences at Al-Qalam University, Katsina. This donation is part of ASR Africa's Tertiary Education Grant Scheme (TEGs), which aims to address infrastructure deficits and promote academic excellence in tertiary institutions across the continent. To date, the initiative has supported 30 institutions with grants ranging from ₦250 million to ₦2 billion.
During the commissioning ceremony, Prof. Nasiru Musa Yauri, Vice Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, expressed his gratitude to the management and staff of ASR Africa for their generous contribution. He emphasized the strategic choice of this project, which aligns with the university's objectives to expand its academic offerings by including the College of Allied Health Sciences. The Vice Chancellor revealed that the university has established partnerships with key healthcare facilities in Katsina State to facilitate clinical training for its students, enhancing the utilization of the new building.
Dr. Ubon Udoh, Managing Director of ASR Africa, delivered a keynote address in which he commended the cooperation between ASR Africa and the university's Project Management Unit, which played a crucial role in completing the project on schedule. He expressed satisfaction with the final results and urged the university to ensure the facility is utilized effectively.
Representing the Executive Governor of Katsina State, H.E. Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, Ph.D., the State Secretary to the Governor, Abdullahi Faskari, highlighted the importance of education as a catalyst for societal development. He extended his thanks to Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of ASR Africa, for his significant investment in the state's tertiary education system. He welcomed the distinguished guests and state executives present at the event.
The new Administrative Block, proposed by Al-Qalam University to support the establishment of the College of Allied Health Sciences, is equipped with fully furnished offices for academic and administrative staff, two conference halls, and other amenities. This facility is designed to enhance the university's capacity as it prepares to offer degree programs in Nursing Science, Public Health, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Optometry, and Medical Laboratory Sciences.
This initiative reaffirms Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu’s commitment to addressing local challenges with sustainable solutions throughout Africa.
