 Ipokia Local Government Inaugurates Food and Nutrition Committee to Enhance Public Health

The Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, popularly known as Cornerstone, has officially inaugurated the Local Government Committee on Food and Nutrition. The event took place on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the council secretariat, with the aim of tackling malnutrition and promoting sustainable health initiatives within the community TMnews report.

In his address, Hon. Avoseh commended the Federal Government’s focus on food and nutrition as a vital component of public health.

He urged the newly formed committee to work diligently and proactively to implement impactful programs that will improve the health and well-being of all residents, especially vulnerable groups such as children under five, pregnant women, and the elderly.

Dr. Adebayo Akindele, Health Secretary of the Ipokia LG Health Authority, outlined the committee’s key objectives, which include the holistic management of childhood malnutrition, reduction of micronutrient deficiencies, and development of nutritional initiatives targeting school-age children, adolescents, and seniors.

The committee will also oversee programs focused on maternal, infant, and young child feeding.

The committee is chaired by Hon. (Mrs.) Olufunmilayo Okewole, with Nurse Adegbola Hannah serving as Secretary. Its membership comprises influential stakeholders from various sectors, including health, agriculture, water supply, education, and community development.

Hon. Avoseh emphasized the importance of proactive implementation and urged the committee members to work collaboratively to address malnutrition challenges and improve residents’ quality of life. He reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable health outcomes across Ipokia.
