Police Disperse Pro-Natasha Protesters with Tear Gas at National Assembly

Security operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have forcefully dispersed supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as they attempted to access the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

The protesters, who gathered at the assembly gate as early as 8:00 am, coinciding with the Senate plenary session and the scheduled hearing of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, were met with tear gas as police moved to prevent a possible disturbance.

Following the dispersal, the demonstrators relocated to the Unity Fountain in Abuja to continue their protest.

The demonstration follows growing tensions after a February 20, 2025, clash between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio over a seating arrangement dispute, which led to her referral to the Senate Ethics Committee.

The situation escalated further last Friday when Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, alleging she was being targeted for rejecting his advances—an accusation that has intensified public scrutiny.
