OUR TASK IS TO SECURE BORDER-LAND, NOT CHECKING COMMUTER'S PHONE -IDIROKO JOINT BORDER PATROL COMMANDER, CSP MANNIR GAFAI

The task of carrying out the mandate of securing Nigeria’s most strategic land border with the establishment of Nigeria/Benin Joint Border Patrol,  community policing strategy with beautiful credentials of the new commander, CSP Mannir Y. Gafai, Idiroko Border Command has now enjoyed a renewed and peaceful policing.

It is on note that the history of Idiroko border security can not be written without mentioning the positive contribution of Nigeria/Benin Joint Border Patrol under the watch of CSP Mannir.

Mannir who has been singled out within a year in office by many Indigenes of the community, testifying to the various professionalism and leadership  displayed.

An humble Kastina born officer, CSP Mennir Gafai also engages his men on weekly training and lectures for effective discharge of their duties which is security of life and properties, prevention of entry of Illicit drugs, arms and ammunition, undocumented passage noting that there are lots of confusions in differentiating men of the Border Patrol from other police formations.

CSP Gafai also clarified to TMnews  that checking of international Passport or Phones of commuters is not their primary duty. He reiterated that security of life and properties is their major duties along the border regions.

Although, a general parlance in Nigeria, says "the dirty looks of a road side mechanic does not allow people to differentiate between a madman and the mechanics" and "no agency in Nigeria that has not gone through one corrupt case or the other", therefore, the police in Nigeria should not be seen from a different perspective as long as it is an agency with human beings as the operators.

However, Mannir applied discipline and constant monitoring of activities of his men in the axis with modern policing.

Recently, he met with some of the  community youths in a parley, seeking their support to participate in community policing which is a
statutory right to maintain peace; moreso, to ease the job of his officers.

He challenges the youth to identify any officer that extort money and report to his office for appropriate action or make a call as his line is always available.
