OUR AGRICULTURAL INITIATIVE IS A SUCCESS STORY-ABIODUN
The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the agricultural initiative of his administration targeted at ensuring food sufficiency, security and employment opportunities as successful.
Prince Abiodun who made this submission during an assessment visit to Eweje Farm Institute in Odeda Local Government Area of the State, disclosed that over 70,000 people have benefited from the initiative.
The Governor pointed out that 50 hectares Cassava Demonstration Farm and the Anchor Borrowers’ programme has contributed to the economic growth of the State.
"Our agricultural initiative in the past two years has put in place a 50 hectares Cassava Demonstration Farm and the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme. Beneficiaries of the programme are given parcels of land to farm, the anchors are also provided with the required inputs, the Ministry of Agriculture provides extension services, while the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) gives stipend until they can harvest.
"The extension services intervention and management of the Ministry of Agriculture has allowed for improved harvest and increase in disposable income or profit from the programme", he said.
One of the beneficiaries, Gbemisola Ogunkola while lauding the Governor for providing them with different anchors for their various agricultural produce, noted that the agric scheme has helped take them out of the labour market and develop their economic worth.
