As part of its efforts to boost to boost the electrification system and ensure steady power supplies across State, twenty transformers had been procured by the Local Government councils in Ogun State, with the  supervision of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape while receiving the transformers in Abeokuta, said the purchase of the transformers became necessary, when some Local Government made the request, adding that the Ministry engaged the service of the State Bureau of Electrical Engineering Services to procure quality ones that could stand test of time.
Afuape maintained that the project was exclusively, the Local Government Areas, while the Ministry was only performing its supervisory roles by ensuring prudency and judicious use of resources at the disposal of the Local Councils.
“It is the responsibility of the Local Government, but as the supervisory Ministry, we only certified procurement of the transformers through Bureau of Electrical Engineering Services to ensure that quality ones were procured”, Afuape said.
He stated that the present administration would be running a new Local Government administration that would be independent in performing statutory roles and functions required of the third tier arm of government, assuring that government would be procuring more transformers on request for the benefits of the citizens of the State.
The Commissioner said the transformers would be distributed according to the need of the Local Governments, as it may not necessarily be given one per each Local Government, noting that this was part of Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration’s efforts to ensure that the citizens enjoy dividends of democracy.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy, Mr. Lolu Adubifa while handing over the transformers to Hon. Afuape, said the Bureau procured the transformers according to specification of 11/500KVA and 33/500KVA, as part of electrification project of the State.
He assured that the transformers would go a long way in serving different areas they are deployed, saying all technical specifications were critically looked into before the procurement.
