In order to reduce accident on roads to the barest minimum, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has warned that any articulated vehicle driver, who refused to properly fasten the container to the truck, would henceforth be arrested and prosecuted.
TRACE Corps Commander and Chief Executive Officer, Commander Seni Ogunyemi gave the warning during a visit to an accident scene of a truck at Adalemo, Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, Ota.
He noted that many articulated truck owners were fond of detaching the truck from the container to secure the truck in case of emergency, at the detriment of other road users, saying many lives have been lost in the process, owing to this nonchalant attitude of the unlawful drivers.
The TRACE boss stated further that any road user, who damaged public property would be made to repair it before facing prosecution, advising truck drivers to desist from carrying more than 30 tons at a time.
TRACE Commander, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Adekunle Ajibade in his remark, appealed to motorists to always obey traffic laws, adding that the present administration would no longer condone lawlessness, while the Corps would not hesitate to arrest and impound any vehicle contravening traffic regulations.
Meanwhile, the Commissionaire of Nigeria Legions has visited the TRACE office in Ota, with an assurance of its support to the Corp towards ensuring adequate safety on the road, declaring that safety and security in the State was a collective effort.
The Legion Commandant, Obafemi Olukunle noted that some road users cannot be easily controlled except with punitive measures, adding that Nigeria Legion could no longer fold its arms while productive lives were being lost to accidents.
Receiving the Legion Officers, the TRACE Commander, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Adekunle Ajibade thanked them for the support, adding that synergy among sister agencies was crucial to realising set objectives.
