The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has urged the Ibadan Electricity Company to improve its generation and distribution of power to the people, as Nigerians were ready to pay for services rendered.

Prince Dapo Abiodun stated this at the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Strategy Management Retreat, with the theme, "Driving Efficiency Through Improved Performance', held at Park Inn, Abeokuta.

The Governor said his administration would do all in its power to ensure that the distribution company succeeds in the State, adding that uninterrupted supply and distribution of electricity was very key to the State’s economy.

"Nigerians are willing to pay for services rendered. If a service is rendered, Nigerians will pay, what Nigerians will not pay for, is services not rendered. Uninterrupted supply and distribution of electricity is very key to us, so also, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company is very key to this state", he said.

Governor Abiodun added that his administration, on assumption of office, decided to set up the Ogun State Energy and Electricity Board, to conduct power audit, which, he said, would help his government understand the needs of the State and how the needs could be efficiently and effectively met

"What we did was to appoint Lolu Adubifa, a former Country Manager of General Electric, with vast experience in the electricity industry. The charge we gave him and his board was to conduct an electricity audit which has never been done in our State before’’.

He expressed optimism that the retreat would afford the distribution company come up with more improved and practical recommendations for efficiency in the energy sector and the development agenda of the country.

In his remarks, Chairman, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Dr. Akintunde Ayeni, noted that the purpose of the retreat was to foster partnership between the distribution company and the State government in the area of the security of lives of staff of the company and ensure better service delivery.

Ayeni added that the retreat would also aid the company to come up with ways at improving its revenue generation, so as to be able to deliver more quality service to the people of the State.
