Members of National Cotton Association of Nigeria (NACOTAN) Ogun State Chapter have been assured of government's support towards ensuring more textiles processing in the State.

The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun made this assurance at the Official Flag off of the Recovery of Cotton Outputs for the 2019 Planting Season, in Ijebu Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area.

Governor Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina, hinted that government recognised the importance of Cotton farming, stating that his administration would continue to address challenges confronting farmers.

"We want to support small holder farmers, as well as ensure their productivities. It is our responsibility as a government to move your outputs high and bring on board deliberate and extensive services", Abiodun said.

He expressed Government tireless resolve to continue to link farmers in the State with industrial process, inputs substitution and encourage exports, saying, "we have been providing financial and logistic support towards the development of agriculture and the promotion of the wellbeing of the people of the state’’.

"One of the Cardinal programmes of our administration is increased agricultural production and industrialisation. Our genuine commitment towards the development of agriculture in the State cannot be over emphasised", the Governor disclosed.

In his remarks, the Branch Controller of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Abeokuta, Mr. Wahab Oseni, expressed the bank’s preparedness to boost industrialisation, improve local contents of fabrics that would in turn improve foreign exchange through exportation of textile materials.

He charged the farmers to be credit worthy by offsetting their loans promptly, saying they were given the loans through some people's deposits in order to improve the marketability of the product.

"Cotton remains a high premium crop, especially in the international market. There is potential for cotton farmers to earn high income from the production of Cotton, especially with the use of best agricultural practices and commitment on the part of all stakeholders", he said.

Also, the State Chairman of NACOTAN, Sola Osasona appreciated government's effort at repositioning agriculture, pledging the Association’s support to the present administration's agricultural drives.
