NO GOING BACK ON FREE EDUCATION -DAPO ABIODUN

Ogun State Government has maintained that education in all Public Primary and Secondary Schools across the State remained free, as efforts were being put in place to ensure conducive learning environment, as well as provide instructional materials for students.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary, Secondary and Technical Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo stated this at an interactive session with representatives of the Parents Teachers Association, (PTA), from the 20 Local Government Areas of the State, held at Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

Soyombo affirmed that Governor Dapo Abiodun, in line with his free education programme had suspended the N3700 levy inherited from the last administration, noting that the PTA, however, could support government in taking education to a higher level.

She urged PTA across the State to always get due approval from Government and the Ministry of Education Science and Technology before rendering any support in areas such as; renovations of school building and  provision of social amenities as stipulated in the statutes that incorporated the body.

“Government is more interested in improving on the quality of teaching and learning in our schools, rather than money-making’’, she stressed.

While calling on parents, who she described as care givers, to always look out for their wards and inculcate good morals in them, the Special Adviser tasked them to follow-up on their children, so they could compete favourably with their counterparts.

Earlier in his remark,  the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Science and Technology ( MOES&T ), Mr. Olu-Ola Aikulola, said the essence of the meeting was to collectively deliberate on how to move education forward, reiterating government’s commitment to reform the sector.

Responding, the State PTA Chairman, Reverend Olusegun Folorunsho appreciated the State government for the giant steps currently being taken to reposition the sector, promising that the association would continue to complement government’s efforts.
