Barrister Biodun Aboaba, counsel to Miss Blessing Asu showered praises and encomiums on the two shinning lights of the Nigerian police force, the duo of AIG Ahmed Iliyasu and CP Hakeem Odumosu for their act of professionalism and patriosm in ensuring that justice is done in a timely manner in the rape case.

According to the victim's lawyer, Aboaba of RRA Solicitors and Advocates, the erring police officer, Sergeant Yakubu with Force number 274145 of 71 PMF, Awa-Ijebu Police Command, Ogun State threatened her client with AK47 rifle, demanding to have sex with the victim by force.

Narrating the sad event in a petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, the lawyer explained that Sergeant Yusuf forcefully had carnal knowledge of his client and also threatened to kill the victim if she open up about the rape incident.

Blessing, who was a virgin until the ugly incident, was forced to opened up when her guardian, Alice Hugbo discovered that she was pregnant, and under pressure, the victim narrated her ordeal in the hands of her abuser, Sergeant Yakubu.

Barrister Aboaba who spoke with journalists in Abeokuta commended the swift intervention of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Ahmed Iliyasu and Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu for their professionalism in fishing out the suspect. Aboaba further called for justice for the innocent, appealing to the police chiefs to dismiss the suspect and charge him to court for prosecution.

In his words "Around January 10, 2020, in the wee hours of the day, precisely 10 a.m, Sergeant Innocent Yakubu, entered the room of Blessing Asu and threatened Blessing Asu with an Ak-47 rifle, demanding to have sex with her by force. Blessing Asu, fearing for her life, stopped screaming and Sergeant Innocent Yakubu violently raped her. After having unlawful carnal knowledge of Blessing Asu, Sergeant Innocent Yakubu threatened to kill her if she ever reveals to anybody that he violently raped her.

He continued "Blessing Asu, a virgin was introduced to sex in the most inhumane way ever by Sergeant Innocent Yakubu and started having nightmares immediately after the experience but however refused to disclose her ordeal to anyone.

" It was until recently that her guardian, Alice Hugbo discovered that Blessing was pregnant after noticing the changes in her body. It was when she was pressed as to who impregnated her that she summoned courage to narrate her ordeal in the hands of Sergeant Innocent Yakubu.
"The medical report confirming she  raped and impregnated by Sergeant Innocent Yakubu is enclosed in this correspondence as Annexure 2. The pictures of the said Sergeant Innocent Yakubu and Blessing Asu are also enclosed as Annexure 3' & 32.

" Child rape in Nigeria has assumed dimension and the rape culture. According to the Inspector-General of Police, the Police has recorded about 717 rape incidents across the country between January and May. We do not want this case to be part of the ugly statistic of unresolved and unprosecuted rape cases. We humbly urge your good office to investigate this matter and swiftly charge the accused to court".
