Training of staff has been described as a veritable tool for strengthening capacity, improving productivity, as well as achieving set goals and objectives in any organisation and society.

 The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Abiodun Awere stated this in his office at Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, while playing host to a team from Development Communications (DevComs) Network, a media-development, capacity-building Organization and The Challenge Initiative (TCI), a Non-governmental Organisation Advocacy working group.

The Permanent Secretary, commended the group for its supports in the area of capacity building on Reproductive Health Information and messages, assuring that

the Ministry would put to use the various platforms and programmes available to project and disseminate messages and information on Reproductive Health and Family Planning to residents of the State and its environs.

In their separate remarks, the Directors of Information, Public Enlightenment, and Strategy, Messrs. Tunde Kassim and Sam Oyeleye, noted that effective information dissemination and enlightenment on family planning was important as it had an overall positive impact on the health of women and children, adding that it would also increase the economic growth and development of the family and society.

Earlier, the Team Lead, Mrs. Kikelomo Badejo said the group was in the State to create more awareness on reproductive health among teenagers, youths and women of child bearing age and propagate further acceptance of family planning, as well as, improving the uptake of contraceptives.

In her contribution, the State Demand Generation Focal Person, The Challenge Initiative (TCI) said the organization was in the State to provide relevant and necessary technical support, so as to enable the State improve the contraceptives prevalence rate, reduce maternal and child mortality through projection of accurate dissemination of information and messages on family planning.

In an interview shortly after the visit, the Head, DevComs Network, Mr. Mayowa Adeniran hinted that Press Officers from relevant Ministries and Agencies in the State would be trained at a Three- Day Media Advocacy for Family Planning beginning from Wednesday, February 26 to Friday 28, 2020, at Continental Suites, Ibara, Abeokuta.
