MY VISIT TO OKE-AMULE ROCK: QUEST TO MAKE OGUN A TOURIST DESTINATIONS OF CHOICE IN THE WORLD -TOURISM COMMISSIONER

In line with the present administration’s resolve to discover untapped natural resources and utilise them to boost the State’s economy, the management of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Ogun State had visited Oke-Amule rock in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of the State, which has been discovered to be a profitable tourist’s site.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo, who led other management staff, in company of the Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Olanite, to the site, said, ‘’the visit was borne out of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s quest at making Ogun, a tourist destination of choice in the world, as no government has ever visited the place’’.
"Imeko is a God loving city, open to tourism to boost the state’s economy, provide job opportunities and good infrastructure. This government has sent the Ministry out to inspect what needed to be done to provide accessible roads and palliative measures, to attract tourists to the city", the Commissioner stated.

The Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Olanite, expressed delight for the visit, noting that Governor Abiodun's administration was the first government to visit the site, apart from the white men who came for research, narrating that the rock served as a place of refuge for the inhabitants of the city during the war between the Fulanis and Oyo Empire.

The royal father implored government to utilise the potentials of the rock and make it notable and profitable, like the popular Olumo Rock in Abeokuta.

Other site visited was the Igbogbo twin rock, where the boundary between Nigeria and Benin Republic could be viewed.
