The Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo FIIM has called on members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Freelance and Independence Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN), to be fair and just in the discharge of their duties, in order to add value to the society.
Dr. Taiwo made the call while receiving the executives of NUJ, Information Chapel and the Ogun State Chapter of FIBAN in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the significant roles of media practitioners as watchdog of the society, cannot be over-emphasised.
While soliciting the groups’ support in promoting the State's cultural heritage and tourist attractions, the Commissioner charged them to be objective in their reportage.
In his remark, the Chairman, NUJ, Information Chapel, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju said his members, as Information Managers, were to promote activities of any government in power, promising their commitments to the actualisation of the mission and vision of the present administration in the State.
On his part, FIBAN Chairman, Comrade Olufemi Omilani, explained that his Association's programmes cut across cultural activities, aimed at promoting the cultural heritage of the people, both on radio and television, particularly to the grassroots, calling for partnership with the State Government, in order to boost tourism in the State.
