OGUN TO COLLATE COMMERCIAL RIDERS, DRIVERS’ BIOMETRICS

The biometrics of all commercial motorcycle riders and motorists operating in Ogun State will be collated, as part of ongoing government’s efforts to sanitise the transportation sector.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, disclosed this during meetings held with the leadership and representatives of Articulated Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) and Three Wheelers Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (TWORAN), at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, underscoring the need for capturing the data of all commercial riders and drivers, which according to him, would enable government plan towards repositioning the sector.
Engr. Dairo said the exercise was for easy identification, monitoring and tracking for any eventualities, which would assist in curbing crimes associated with commercial transportation in the State, expressing displeasure at reckless driving and flagrant violation of traffic rules, as violators would face the full wrath of the law.
He charged the Union leaders to cooperate with his ministry in developing a roadmap for a better organized and robust transport sector, where safety of passengers was prioritised, reiterating government's resolve to make transport affordable, accessible and safe through regulations and policies of international standard, as the era of exploitation, harassment, thuggery and other acts capable of making life difficult for passengers was over in the State.
In his remark, the State Chairman of AMORAN, Comrade Nurudeen Alowonle, commended the State government for the creation of the Ministry of Transportation, pledging the Associations’ support towards achieving set goals in the transport sector.
