The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 2 Command, Onikan Lagos, AIG Ahmed Iliyasu psc+ in convoy with the Commissioners  of Police in charge of Lagos and Ogun, CP Akeem Odumosu and CP Kenneth Ebrimson respectively , embarked on  the monitoring of both borders  to assess the level of compliance  of lockdown exercise in the area.

Speaking at the Lagos Kara and Interchange, Lagos and Ogun borders, the AIG, Ahmed Iliyasu said Nigeria Police Force and Community Policing have been the yardstick towards achieving better results.

According to him, there has been a huge compliance about the lockdown in both States adding that the few people apprehended did not  imply failure of the exercise since the country is not totally shutdown.

He emphasised the need to continue synergy between the two states in oder to sustain the cooperation and success as recorded in the past saying efforts are in place to make Ogun and Lagos state, a crime free zone.

"In terms of restriction, we look at the civil aspect of it. It is not to shutdown the community. We are looking at some critical economic assets like banks, NNPC, installations, energy, communication, telecommunication, diplomats that are scattered all over, doing their jobs. In view of that you can look at the intelligence, the resilience, the professionalism in line with the federal and state governments directives", the AIG stated.

He, however, said that anybody that flagrantly abused the restriction order would be severely dealt with.

He commended his officers and men, whom he said had exhibited quality and high sense of professionalism in carrying out the national assignment, while also appreciating members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) as well as the media for exhibiting high sense of patriotism as partners in community policing.

In their separate remarks, the Lagos State, Commissioner of Police, Akeem Odumosu and Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC led by it's National Vice Chairman incharge of Southwest, Alhaji Ibraheem Olaniyan pledged they will always compliment the good legacy of the AIG promising that the two States will not relent in joint policing, especially at this crucial stage of Covid-19 in the country to make the Federal Government pronouncement on lockdown a success.
