Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, has extolled the ingenuity of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for setting up a cultural institution for the preservation of the socio-political and cultural history of the nation and the Yoruba race, for the benefit of the coming generations.
Oluomo, while leading other lawmakers on a visit to the residence of the former President and elder statesman, posited that the collection of artefacts and military relics of the former General during his days in the Nigerian Army remained a reference point in history.
Describing Obasanjo as a living legend of all times, who contributed immensely to the promotion of democratic ideals, the Speaker lauded his initiative geared towards referencing history, with evidence as reflected in the relics, giving credence to the nation's history for the upcoming generations.
He thanked the former President on behalf of his colleague-lawmakers for his vision at ensuring evidence based documentations at the center on national history, including landmark events, culture and other notable activities.
Earlier in his remarks, Chief Obasanjo appreciated the visit of the lawmakers to the facility, stating that it had become expedient to preserve cultural values, with a view to improving the present situation and inspiring the future.
He underscored the culture of keeping the past for posterity, saying his past experience about keeping relics from history spurred him to establish the center, with sections for the Organization of African Unity, (OAU) African Union (AU) collection of books, cultural heritage and other historical relics among others.
