OGSG MOBILISES LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCILS FOR CLEAN ENVIRONMENT

Ogun State Government has expressed determination to mobilise and collaborate with the 20 Local Government Councils in the State, to achieve a clean and safe environment.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, stated this when he paid a working visit to the Chairman, Transition Committee, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Engr. Olugbenga Olugbile, in Ijebu-Ode, saying the Councils must cooperate with the State Government in sensitising the people, especially market leaders and traders, on the need to keep their environment and drainage channels clean.

Mr. Oresanya urged them to employ sweepers to clean the inner streets in their localities, as well as support the Residential Refuse Collection Programme, to complement State Government’s efforts in eliminating indiscriminate dumping of refuse, advising the Councils to enact their own Environmental Bye-Laws, to promote public hygiene, which was an integral component of the Sustainable Development Goals.

He hinted that Recycling Plants would be sited in some Local Government Areas (LGAs), to provide employment opportunities for the people, enjoining the Chairmen to take ownership of the new Waste Management Reforms within their localities to promote healthy environment.

Responding, Engr. Olugbile commended the State Government for the environmental sanitation initiative, pledging to key into all the programmes aimed at making Ogun State clean.
